UK Flights To Italy
Italy is a beautiful country with varied landscapes and so much to see, do and enjoy. Whether you take leisure in skiing, city breaks or beach holidays, Italy offers them all and then some!
Italy ranks as the fifth popular destination in the world, drawing over 36.5 million travellers annually; backed by the reality that it is quite easily reached country, with seven of its major cities having international airports; and there are some 406 budget airlines operating flights around and from Italy; which means you will get a flight for your exact destination. Milan and Rome, both are home to two international airports, whereas Naples, Turin, Bologna, Venice, and Pisa have one each. UK flights leave regularly and travellers are offered with a lot of choices, for the scheduled flights; the national airline of Italy is Alitalia. The budget airlines operate flights from UK; the airlines are Easyjet, Ryanair, and FlyBe.
The north region of Italy is subjugated by Italian Alps; and the Lombardo-Venetian Plain, situated at the base of the mountains. This is the largely inhabited and urbanized area of Italy, which has many major cities. Milan (Milano) is famed as the world’s fashion capital and the business and financial centre of Italy. Venice or Venezia is a city famous for romance, art, canals, and history. Turin or Torino hosted the Winter Olympic Games held in 2006; and Verona was the home of Romeo and Juliet, the character of Shakespeare, and the city is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
There is an abundant opportunity for Skiing in the Italian Alps; with maximum ski travel resorts being located in the Dolomites range. This includes the world class, Cortina d’Amprezzo. This area is also famous with summer travellers enjoying the incredible Alpine landscape; visiting Lake Como is particularly suggested.
Obviously snowfall is high on the mountains during the winter, and away from the mountains winters can be damp and cold. In the summer though, the norm is for hot and humid weather: the average high in Milan, for example, is 28C (83F) in July.
From northern plains, the Apennines mountain range traverses the complete length of Italy. Skiing resorts such as Roccaraso in Abruzzo, and Terminillo in Lazio are available here.
Rome (Roma) is the dominating attraction of Central Italy. The capital and largest city is full of the history of the Roman Empire and features some of the world’s best known landmarks, most notably the Colosseum. The historic centre of Rome has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city of Florence or Firenze in Tuscany was the midpoint of Renaissance of Italy. This is evident in the art and architecture of the place.
The weather in Rome is characteristically Mediterranean, with gentle winters and dry, hot summers. The months of July and August, are the hottest with an average temperature of 28C (83F).
The main city here is Naples (Napoli) whose historic centre is again designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its artistic heritage. The city is cited as the birth place of pizza and has the breathtaking backdrop of the volcano, Mount Vesuvius. The excavated ruined city of Pompeii, which was buried when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, is a popular attraction.
The Calabrian area is situated, far south of Italy. It is a mountainous region and characterizes some striking coastlines and several beach accommodations. Even though there are several resorts available, still the region has not witnessed over development. Many of the towns and villages of the region, still have the Old Italian charisma.
By the time you reach Southern Italy, the climate is truly Mediterranean with temperatures reaching 40C (104F) in the summer, though in the mountains the winter temperatures can drop below zero.
