Ford Mustang Or Chevy Camaro, Which Is Best For You?
For decades, there has been a battle waged for the title of best American muscle coupe. Many contenders have been and gone, but the 2 main stayers and longest rivals would unquestionably be the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. Will the 2012 Ford Mustang GT or 2012 Camaro SS take the front this year?
Both these cars have been around since the mid 1960s and have been engaged in a savage battle since then. The year 2012 sees the latest models being released from both makers, with each planning to improve on prior years.
At the junior level, both producers offer a V6 model aimed at providing a balance between fuel economy and performance while keeping up the muscle automobile appearance. The Mustang has a 3.7L 305hp engine whilst the Camaro has a 3.6L 323hp engine. The Mustang and the Camaro both offer a choice between the standard 6 speed manual transmission and a 6 speed automatic transmission.
Moving up the line, we next take a look at the V8 models, the Camaro SS and the Mustang GT. The Mustang GT demonstrates a 5.0L engine offering up to 390hp (if used with premium fuel), and the Camaro SS offers up a 6.2L 426hp engine. Whilst both these models have more than needed power to get one's self into trouble, the undeniable fact that the Camaro SS tops the Mustang GT by 36hp can't be ignored.
How does this extra performance fare when it comes to fuel usage, however? The Mustang GT claims 17mpg in the town and 26mpg on the highway for the book and 18mpg in the city and 25mpg on the highway for the automated. The Camaro SS advertises economy rates of 16mpg in the town and 24mpg on the highway everywhere. If this is correct it's not possible to argue against more power, for less fuel usage!
At a quick peek, it appears the 2012 Camaro SS is an obvious winner. Why don't you go and take one for a drive and see whether the new Camaro is good for you!
