Home Sweet Home - Use This Advice To Improve Your Parental Skills
With parenting, there are no definitive rules on how to do anything, exactly the right way. While this may seem to be a daunting fact, remember, that every person new to parenting always feels the same way. However, with a bit of sound advice, you can get off to a great start with your child. Follow these tips and advice, if you want to begin your career as a parent on the right foot.
Many parents have a hard time balancing their work life and home life responsibilities because they have not learned how to say no. Take an honest look at your priorities. Make a list and learn to say no to those items that are low on the list so that you do not have to give up precious time with your family.
Going back to the basics is sometimes an important thing to do with your child, no matter how boring it might seem to them. By ignoring today's technology and fast pace you will give your child lifelong immeasurable skills. Some things that you can do with your child include sewing, camping, hiking and building. These are all activities that will teach your child basic skills that can be carried with them throughout their lifetime.
Do not assume that keeping medications and vitamins out of reach will keep your child safe. It is important to take the extra precaution of actually locking them up to guarantee that your child will not have access to them. With a lock system in place, you must still be vigilant and remember to lock it after each time you access a medication.
Stand your ground when it comes to your child's bedtime. If it's past their bedtime and they're begging you for just one more TV show or book, stand your ground. An hour less sleep per night reduces a child's ability to function the next day, affecting their concentration at school. Teenagers need eight to nine hours of sleep per night, whereas younger school-age children should get a minimum of ten to twelve hours.
Thunderstorms can be frightening to young children. Next time a storm rolls through, yell "BOOM" and laugh as the thunder claps, and encourage your little one to do the same. The next time a storm rolls through your child will think it's a game because you showed her how not to be afraid.
If you are the parent of a teen, of course you want to keep them from harm; but some battles are more worth fighting than others. If they want to have orange hair or their room isn't as pristine as you would hope, those are battles to let go, because they don't matter. Now hanging out with a bad crowd is a fight to pursue.
