New Eco Range Of Plates and Accessories
The world we live in is a wasteful one. Close to 20mil cups, plates and other utensils are disposed of every day in the UK and US, causing a vast amount of unprocessable landfill. We obviously need our tableware and no one is suggesting that we look into alternative ways of eating or socialising, but surely there is a more ‘green’ alternative? One Richmond-based business think they have cracked it.
They have developed a complete range of biodegradable and compostable tableware that can be used in exactly the same way as ordinary products. The can be rinsed out easily and do not harbour bacteria. where they differ however is that they biodegrade over time and can be absorbed by micro-bacterias, fungus and plants.
The company has been given a thumbs up from eco organisations and by local government, picking up a few important awards for their efforts. The latest accolade they received was from New Visions, a non-profit organisation that helps fledging companies who have a strong ethical grounding to develop.
$1,500 was the fund awarded to the company, which they plan to put towards further development work. Their range currently extends to 25 items, which include, mugs, bowls and cutlery. They are looking into making more utensils such a bottle opener and more detailed pieces like designer cheese knives
The company owner, Jocelyn Tice has spoken of her vision of making her alternative tableware available in outlet all over the world. "the is no limit to where it can be used" she stated. It will lighten the load put on waste disposal companies and will save people a lot of money and maybe even the earth.
As well and expanding her ranges, Jocelyn is also considering entering new markets with her concept, including furniture, packaging and even electrical appliances. She has also been approached by a number of larger companies who are interested in incorporating her products into their own table and glassware
