Homeowner Tips for Installing an Overhead Garage Door
Most people will want to repair things around at home instead of calling a professional as often takes to the fact that doing so can be quite expensive. You need to be aware that fixing your garage door yourself can be quite complex, but you can do it if you have the tools and experience.
The torsion springs will present the biggest threat when working on your garage door. These springs will are very powerful, powerful enough to kill you if you are unfortunate enough to experience an accident when working around them. This includes the springs that you will be removing when you take down your old door, if the new door is a replacement. You'll need to ensure that you take tension off of the springs when you are removing the door. Insert a torsion rod into the fitting and slowly put pressure on the spring in order to loosen the screws. It is important to insert an additional torsion rod before you remove the first one. You will need to remove the hinges as well as the top roller bracket on one side in order to start taking the door apart. Remove all the panels, all of the tracks, the torsion bars, and the doorstop.
After the door has been taken apart, you can start hanging your new door:
* Clean any old materials away from the floor and door frame before attaching weather stripping to the bottom of the first panel. You should partially drive some of the nails then set it the doorway.
* Attach the hinges to the top of the door.
* You will need to find out how to assemble the tracks, so make sure that you read the manual.
* The door or wall should be fitted with the brackets.
* You'll then need to put the tracks onto the rollers on both sides.
* Install the rollers on the 2nd section. Slip the rollers into the appropriate tracks.
* Fasten the hinges you've already attached to the 1st section to the 2nd. You'll need to repeat these steps for the third and final section of your door. Make sure that you don't install the door if it is not level.
* The jamb brakcets will also need to be attached to the tracks then placed on the frame. Don't tighten the screws very tight at this point.
*While you are installing the horizontal track along the curved tracks, you may need to use a ladder to support the installation process.
*You'll need to attach the hanger to ceiling where it belongs then put the track onto it. Repeat this process with the horizontal track.
* Once the final door section has been installed like it should be, make sure that you get rid of any nails that you drove for temporary reasons. Doc No. 34Sdlhgsdl -sds
