Making Sure You Get An Accurate Bath Remodeling Estimate
When hiring someone to perform renovations on your home, they will usually offer an estimate on the cost of materials and labor. When you get the bathroom remodeling estimate, especially for a bathroom project, make sure you know exactly what is in the price. Most estimates will include a cushion just in case unknown repairs come up, but it should also specify how much cost adjustment is allowed and that all changes must be approved by the homeowners.
Most contractors are honest people, but you’ll still want to get references from previous customers. They will generally offer an accurate bathroom remodeling estimate for the job, knowing that if they continue to charge more than the job was estimated, their future will be limited. You also don’t want to get caught in the trap of low bathroom remodeling estimates that continue to go up and up as the project is completed.
Allowing the contractor to make adjustments to certain aspects of the project up to a certain dollar amount is normal in most remodeling contracts. Just make sure that the adjustments apply to the overall cost of the job, not individual pieces. It will be difficult for the homeowner to reign in the cost of the bathroom remodeling project if increases are made to each little part of the project.
Get An Exact Agreement In Place
Everything spelled out in a bathroom remodeling estimate should specify the materials to be used. The materials list should include specific dimensions and style. For example, if you are having a granite counter top installed, the dimensions and thickness should be listed. If specifics like these aren’t listed, you may get a product that you are not expecting, are not happy with, or may not hold up as well. Remember though, any changes you make to the materials used during the project will increase the original estimate.
Other things to look for on the estimate are the brand and model of any fixtures that will go into your new bathroom. It may not be necessary to specify the source for the items, but if there is reason to believe the contractor will buy factory seconds or used merchandise, you want to get another contractor instead of a bathroom remodeling estimate. Taking the time to go through the estimate with a fine tooth comb will ensure that you get what you are expecting out of your bathroom remodel.
