Metropolitan Transportation Authority In NYC, NJ Transit, And Long Island Rail Road Snowfall Interferences
Snowfall totals within the Northeast are snarling transit. NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority manages all transit in New York City. Their site, however, is still down. New Jersey transit is attempting to keep major routes on the internet. The Long Island Rail Road, LIRR, is mostly offline, though New York City transit is honoring LIRR tickets at some stations.
Try using the MTA trip planner this time
The only service mostly running in New York City is the MTA. It is getting hard to access the MTA transit planner though. The servers keep getting crashed with all the traffic on the MTA NYC website. You don't have to use the MTA transit planner though. Transit maps on Google maps were something that has been available for a while after Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Google partnered together. You can use the Google Transit MTA Trip Planner if you have to. The route for Metropolitan Transportation Authority trip will be shown to you. The Google Transit Maps does not take into account anything being shut down though. To confirm everything, call Metropolitan Transportation Authority at (718) 243-7777.

Bus and light rail is being cleared as fast as possible. This is what the NJ Transit is working on. There are 15 to 20 minute delays on some of the rails lines with an enhanced holiday schedule that trains are running on. The New Jersey Station explains that "getting to the station could be trouble enough." This is why it is encouraging riders to stay home if they can. If you are using the NJ Transit trip planner, officials are suggesting using January 17, 2011 as the "travel date" to get accurate plans.
Long Island RR
Getting passengers around with the Long Island Rail Road has been difficult too. There have been 16 inches and more in some places of snowfall. Also, until 6 p.m. Monday, there has been a blizzard warning. The Long Island Rail Road is using scraper shoes, jet-powered snow blowers, hot-air jets, snow brooms and other snow clearing equipment to clear the rail lines. All local stops at about 10 stations are running, though you will find many trains that got stuck. Tickets for subway service from Penn, Atlantic Terminal and Jamaica stations are being honored at the New York City transit Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
